Actor and musician Jared Leto has confirmed that he will star and produce an upcoming Andy Warhol biopic. The film is titled Warhol and will also be produced by Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Captain Phillips). Terence Winter, creator of Boardwalk Empire and the writer who adapted The Wolf of Wall Street to the big screen will pen the script.
Contemporary art legend Warhol is best known for combining advertising with art and expressing critiques of American consumerism throughout the 60’s. His most notable works feature Marilyn Monroe, Campbell’s soup cans and Coca-Cola bottles. Warhol was openly gay before it was accepted and was known for his eccentric and unpredictable behavior.
Leto, who just received mixed reviews for his role as The Joker in Suicide Squad, could be the ideal man for the part. He showed some real acting chops when he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2013’s Dallas Buyer’s Club. Although no official date has been released for the project, it seems to be in good hands. It will be interesting to watch it unfold.
